Topic - Europe is our home

Europe is our home
Europe is regarded as being the most prolific continent in the areas of art, sciences, politics, discoveries and inventions. Europe was also a pioneer in various fields, such as transportation, research, trade and urbanization. But, despite all of these significant historical feats, Europe has not been yet able to embrace itself, to accept itself in all of its diversity and contrasts or to unite.
Firstly, Europe has never united for something, but against something. We have always reached temporary common ground only in urgent situations, the last one being the rise of strong foreign economic centers and the risk of extremist nationalism within the continent. We preferred to act together rather than separately in order to avoid economic suppression and further separation. But we need to unite for ourselves, for our common ancestry, for our being a big family.
The European Union is the biggest promoter of Europe and of its values. The EU is constantly trying to integrate us all into the “European spirit”, to get us to the status of European citizen. Then what is it that stops us from receiving our siblings with their due love and respect? The answer is again history.
The only way to convert the distrust into trust is by education, respect and tolerance. Education should provide us with information about the great cultural diversity fostered by our home continent. We should also grow accustomed early in life with the way people of different nationalities from Europe think, work, live and with their specific culture and folklore in order to understand them better. Fortunately, this can be easily achieved by continuous communication between the countries, backed by projects and special travelling programs designed especially for this purpose. Some of these measures have already been implemented and the language institutes worldwide usually spread their countries’ cultures as well as their respective mother tongues.
Respect is a crucial aspect of the European unification, as everybody wants to preserve their national and cultural identity. If we respect a country, we respect its individualism entirely and we do not try to shape it according to our own regard. As a conclusion, respect ensures the preservation of national identities within the larger concept of the European identity. A united Europe would not impose one culture over the rest but rather teach everyone about the European family, without having them abandon their original identity.

To my mind, Europe will be able to unite, to have better and simpler communications, improved relations and more success simply by having its people learn to accept the cultural differences between states not just because they want to be politically correct, but because they really do have the seed of acceptance sown into their hearts. That is the unique possibility of a long-term European unification.I think that Europe will become home for every one who respect itsits rules and laws.

«Sistine Madonna»

“The Sistine Madonna” — one of famous products of world art. This picture belongs to number of the brightest poetic images created by artists of Renaissance. The picture is as though a result of creativity of the great artist of that time of Raphael. The history of creation of this cloth is shrouded till now by secret. Has not remained neither written certificates, nor sketches. Under the official version, Raphael's picture has been written by the master for a monastery of St. Siksta in Piacenza where was before purchase by its Dresden gallery in 1754.

One of the most frequently discussed and best-loved paintings of the Renaissance is Raphael's so-called Sistine Madonna. For many people it remains the supreme example of western painting, and its popularity is virtually as great as that of the Mona Lisa.

“The Sistine Madonna” still contemporaries has been recognised by one of the greatest creations of an epoch. Thirty years later after a picture writing the well-known biographer of artists Vozrozhdenija Vazari wrote about it as about “the rare and unique thing”.

Huge in size (256 x 196 cm) painting was created by Raphael for the altar of the church of the monastery of St. Sixtus in Piacenza commissioned by Pope Julius II. There is a hypothesis that the picture was painted in the years 1512-1513 to commemorate the victory over the French, invaded in Lombardy during the Italian wars, and the subsequent inclusion of Piacenza in the Papal States.

Commissioned by the Benedictine monks of the Monastery of San Sisto in Piacenza, Raphael painted the piece as their altarpiece. Finished a few years before his death, ca. 1513–1514, it was the last of the painter's Madonnas and the last painting he completed with his own hands. It was their requirement that the image contain both Saint Sixtus and Saint Barbara. Legend has it that when Antonio da Correggio first laid eyes on the piece, he was inspired to cry, "And I also, I am a painter!".

Which is very unusual for the beginning of the XVI century, the material is not board, and canvas. This may reflect the fact that the painting would be used as a banner (unless the choice of material is not explained by the large dimensions of the work).
In the XVIII century, the legend that Julius II commissioned Raphael canvas for his tomb, and that served as a model for Madonna's beloved Raphael Fornarina, for Sixtus - the Pope Julius (nephew of Sixtus IV), and for the St. Barbara - his niece Julie Orsini. Proponents of the theory that the painting was created for the Pope's tomb, emphasize that acorns on chasuble Sixtus explicitly refer to these two kinds of fathers della Rovere (rovere means "oak").
At the same time, creating an image of it to the church in Piacenza indicates that its patrons have always been considered Sts. Sixtus and Barbara depicted in this painting. The image was successfully entered into the central part of the apse of the church in Piacenza, where he served as a kind of substitute for the missing window.

This painting combines secular and earthly clerical elements with the divine in an ostensible theatrical interplay. The lid of the coffin of Pope Julius II forms the stage, while the tableau curtains are drawn apart to reveal the divine action.

This hierarchical pastiche communicates the heavens to the devout in a known way: from the bottom of the painting — the church, along with its highest representative, — through the center, where the saints hover, — and to the top, where Mary with baby Christ on her hands treads the clouds. The myriad of seraphs in the background testifies to the transparency of the scene to both worlds, and its consequent significance to our existence here, as well as there. Perhaps the artist intended for every little alabaster face to find a counterpart in someone on the side of the beholder.
It is known also that the picture has been completely written by Raphael's hand, without the aid of pupils that was then a rarity.

The artist has represented Maria in all growth with the baby the Christ on hands. The Madonna goes down from heavens to people accompanied by St. Barbarians. Pope Sikst II as though entrusts mankind to the defender. Below, at the frame, two small angels look at the wonderful phenomenon. Behind a figure of the Madonna clouds curl and the attracting distance shines. I often look at a reproduction of this picture because it hangs on a wall in our house, but each time a picture composition amazes me with the grandeur and at the same time ingenious simplicity. Bribes me and that in Raphael's picture there are no outer effects underlining greatness of a plot as, for example, on Leonardo da Vinci's cloth "Madonna Litta" — fragments of a temple, mountains, a look of deep significance of the baby etc. Raphael, probably, has created a cloth essentially different not only from works of its predecessors, but also from the own creations written earlier.

Raphael includes two little angels as a comic relief to the grave scene, in the best of theatrical traditions. These two seem ungainly in comparison to the Madonna’s stately posture, but not repulsive: on the contrary, they appeal to the viewer in a sympathetic, familiar way, facilitating contact with the rest of the image.

The humility of the saints becomes the next preparatory psychological step to be taken in order to confront Madonna herself — for she is truly formidable here, unlike Raphael’s usual depiction. She looks straight forward and down at the viewer, self-conscious and ecstatic, mystical and tragic, qualities underlined by the eerie light surrounding her frame.

Christ’s expression is polar to that of the resting angels. He looks apprehensive, his eyes and pose betraying an almost adult awareness and seriousness. While the lower babes display boredom and impatience, Christ appears caught in the moment, aware of its significance for himself, in the future, and for the devout, in the present. In fact, he may be returning the gaze here, reflecting that of the viewers’ and deliberately engaging them.

All of the mentioned qualities endow the painting with unprecedented intensity. The clarity of the composition (the symmetrical arrangement of the actors) and the modest but strategical use of color make the tension even more lucid and almost palpable, almost unbearable I would say. This is a stark departure from the artist’s previous tame versions, and it signals a shift towards more complex psychological interpretations.

In my opinion, Raphael has gone on a natural way of any true artist. It more and more identified beauty and perfection of the Divine with the human. It, in my opinion, gives special charm to "the Sistine Madonna”. In a picture all is natural and human, though before us the mother of god. Easily and smoothly folds of clothes of Maria stream, underlining lightness of its movement. Its fine in the human mildness and affection the person awakes a reciprocal pure feeling, as at a meeting with the native person.

I hardly accept the standard interpretation of an image, as if Maria's person is fanned by light grief, a presentiment of that she has given birth to the son on sufferings for mankind etc. To me it seems, at people from Raphael's cloth look mother human and the child human. Through light of their persons the person looking at a picture comprehends the Divine in the world. Because to ennobled always it is necessary to do a way lying through barriers. I and at icons have similar feelings: if the icon is written too schematically, it does not cause in me reciprocal feeling.

Approach to human at all has not belittled religious idea “Sistine Madonna” of Raphael, and has only underlined humanistic depth of thought of the artist.

Realistic and humanistic aspirations of such artists of Renaissance as Raphael, have broken the conditional scheme of the medieval church image, have given to the Madonna with the baby deeply human image of happy and healthy motherhood which is deprived any mystical aura and full pure terrestrial charm. Therefore in our house as if the good and humanity talisman, hangs on a wall my favourite picture “Sistine Madonna”.

Carl Jung

USA

The USA is situated in the central part of the North American continent The total area is over 9 million square kilometers. The Pacific Ocean washes its western coast and the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico in the south washed its eastern coast. It borders on Canada in the north and Mexico in the south. The USA is a federal republic of fifty states and the District of Columbia. At first it consisted of only 13 states of the Atlantic coast of America. That were English colonies, but they fought against England and in 1776 became an independent state. They won the victory and a new nation was born. As the time went on, settlers from all the countries of Europe moved to the west until the nation reached from the Atlantic to the Pacific. One by one new states were added to the first 13. Much land was taken from the Indians. Some of the territories were bought from France in 1803, others were taken from Mexico. Alaska was bought from Russia in 1817. It became the 49th state of the USA, in 1859. The same year in 1859 the territory of Hawaii was to the UAS as the 50th state. The USA is divided onto three areas: Eastern area-a high land, Central area-a plane, and western area is mountainous and includes the Rocky mountains and the Sierra Nevada. The Northern part of the USA embraces the region of the five Great Lakes. (Lake Superior Huron, Michigan, Erie, Ontario) which are connected by natural channels, cut by rapids. The greatest of these rapids is the Niagara Falls. The water of the five lakes have their outlet into the Atlantic Ocean by the St-Lawrence River. The principal rivers of the USA are the Mississippi, the longest river in the world (17.800 kilometers) which flows into the Gulf of Mexico, the Colorado and the Columbia, which flows into the Pacific Ocean, and the Hudson river, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The climate of the USA differs greatly from one part of the country to another. The coldest climate is in the north, when there is heavy snow in winter and the temperature may go down to 40 degrees below zero. The south has a subtropical climate, with temperatures as high as 49 degrees in summer. The climate along the pacific coast is much warmer than that in the Atlantic coast The capital of the USA is Washington, in the District of Columbia. The USA Congress has its seat in the Capitol, and the White House is the residence of the President. Washington, is a beautiful administrative city without much industry. It has many famous monuments: the Library of the Congress of the USA, the Washington Monument, the Abraham Lincoln and others. New York is the largest city and port. It is the financial and business center. It is famous of its sky-serapes. Chicago is one of the biggest industrial cities in the USA. San Francisco on the pacific coast, is a big port and ship building center. The USA is one of the greatest industrial nations in the world. With only about 5 percent of the world's population and about 6 percent of its land area, the U.S. is the world produces around 25 percent of the world's industrial products, agricultural goods, and services. The USA is the world leader in many branches, for instance, biochemical and genetic engineering, aerospace research and development, communications, computer and information services, and similar high-technology fields. The USA is also the world's leading agricultural nation, which not only feeds her own people but many other people in the world as well. There are many reasons, which can explain why the USA has been able to become the leading industrial and agricultural resources. Another very important reason is America's vitality, its so-called spirit of enterprise and initiative. The rapid progress of American industry and agriculture is also the result of the constant willingness to experiment and to find new solutions to old problems. The USA is divided into regions that have different kinds of land and climate, different ways of living and working, and their own characteristics and problems. And each has its own groups of people whose origin and traditions make them different from any of the others. However, out of these differences the American people were able to create a political and social system in which all of these regions and groups were represented and which fogmed one nation out of many parts.

Terra Incognita
(Unknown Land)
It is supposed that Australia’s native inhabitants, the Aborigines,
arrived in Australia at least 40,000 years ago. The first Europeans
visited the shores of Australia in 1606. The Spanish ship of Luis Vaes de
Torres sailed through the strait which now bears his name and separates
Australia and Papua New Guinea. In the same year the Dutch ship Duyfken
(Little Dove) sailed into the Gulf of Carpentaria. Among later voyagers is
Dirk Hartog (1616), who left an inscribed pewter plate (Australia’s most
famous early European relic, now in Amsterdam) in Western Australia.
Abel Tasman, Dutch navigator, visited Tasmania, which he named Van
Diemen’s Land, in 1642.
The first Englishman to visit the continent was a buccaneer, William
Dampier, who landed near King Sound on the northwest coast in 1699.
A second wave of immigration began in 1770, when Captain James Cook,
of the British Navy, sighted the east coast of the continent.
Cook had been sent to Tahiti to make astronomical observations and
when his mission was completed, he sailed south in Endeavour,
circumnavigated New Zealand and headed due west. On April 20, 1770, Cook
sighted land near Cape Everard, in the southeast corner of Australia. He
turned north, charting the coastline as he went and, 9 days later, landed
at Botany Bay, which he named for the variety of botanic specimen found
there. He raised the British flag and claimed New South Wales as a British
Colony.
First European Settlement
It is probably due to its geographical position that Australia was
the last continent to be inhabited by the white man. It was just a little
over 390 years that the Australian continent was discovered.
The first landing by Europeans took place in 1606. More than a century
and a half later an expedition headed by the British explorer James Cook
added the land to the possessions of the British crown.
Until the name “Australia” (meaning “South Land”) became generally
accepted for the continent, it had been referred to as New Holland, New
South Wales, or Botany Bay. During the War of Independence (1776) the
former British colonies in America declared themselves independent.
Britain tried to make up for this loss by the seizure of new territories.
Besides, the convicts could no longer be transported to the American
colonies (which had served this purpose for over hundred years) and
British jails were more than badly overcrowded.
The first contingent of the convicts and their guards landed where
Sydney stands today, on January 26, 1788. It was the so-called “First
Fleet” and these people were called “first fleeters” Now, Australia Day,
January 26, commemorates the landing. Gradually more and more people
arrived (they were convicts as well as free settlers) and a number of
settlements were founded along the southern and eastern coasts. For the
first few years, the colonists were almost entirely dependent on food
supplies from overseas but gradually the land around the settlements was
brought under cultivation. Soils were generally poor and crop yields low,
but better agricultural land was soon found near Parramatta, to the west.
Exploratory voyages were also made along the east coast. The boldest was
that of Captain Matthew Flinders who, in 1802-1803 circumnavigated the
continent.
Australia Day is a very important holiday for the Australians, another
equally important holiday is called Anzac Day.
Creation of The Commonwealth of Australia
In 1901 the separate colonies in Australia merged together and became
the States of the Commonwealth of Australia, which acquired the status of
dominion of Great Britain. The Commonwealth of Australia – a federation of
the 6 former colonies as states – was declared to come into being on
January 1, 1901. The first Governor – General, the Earl of Hopetoun,
convened the first Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia on April
29, 1901. It was opened in Melbourne on May 9 by Duke of Cornwall and York,
son of King Edward VII. Sir Edmund Barton was the first Prime Minister.
The constitution provided for Federal Parliament to sit in Melbourne
until a federal capital territory was selected and established. The present
Australian Capital Territory was ceded from New South Wales to become
federal territory in 1911, and the future capital was named Canberra in
1913. The first Federal Parliament to meet in Canberra was opened by the
Duke of York, later King George VI, on May 9, 1927.
Though Australia now is an independent state, according to the
Constitution the head of the state is the Monarch of Great Britain,
represented by the Governor-General. His duties include assenting to bills,
opening, proroguing and dissolving Parliament and commissioning the Prime
Minister to form a government. Governor-General’s residence Jarralumla is
in Canberra.
The Commonwealth of Australia is composed of 6 states and 2
territories: the State of New South Wales with its capital in Sydney, the
State of Victoria with its capital in Melbourne, the State of Queenland
with its capital in Brisbane, the Sate of Western Australia with its
capital in Perth, the State of Tasmania with its capital in Hobart,
Australian Capital Territory with its Federal Capital in Canberra, and
Northern Territory with its capital in Darwin.
New Crown Colonies
Great Britain was on the verge of loosing 13 rebellious American
Colonies in 1770. At that time Captain James Cook who led a scientific
voyager planted the British ensign on a continent that would soon provide a
vast new colony: Australia.
The will to establish new crown colonies was insistent even before the
old ones mere lost. The Parliament debated the site as early as 1779. Only
18 years after Captain James Cook had landed in Botany Bay, Captain Arthur
Philip arrived in Sydney Cove to begin the first settlement.
In many ways, America and Australia have had corresponding histories
of exploration, colonization, immigration, and growth. Both began with
settlements on the fringes of huge continents, gradually pushing inward to
cultivate a wilderness interior. And both developed a frontier ethos of
independence.
As the convicts earned their freedom, they went into the outback and
staked claims on land. These men, known as Squatters, raised sheep or
cattle, depending on the type of land they found for themselves.
Other convicts however reverted to their criminal ways and became
outlaws, raiding the towns and stealing from the squatters. The early part
of Australian history is filled with the tales of the settlers. These
bushrangers often became folk-heroes in the tradition of Robin Hood and
Dick Turpin in England, and Jesse James in the United States. Many poems
and songs were written about them and at one time it was a criminal
offence to sing or recite these ballads which glorified crime.
Nonetheless, every Australian today knows the stories of the famous
bushrangers. These ballads and songs started the tradition of Australian
“yarn” and its heroes, Dad’s Dave among them.
The hard rough life in the outback was no place for women. The
Squatters searched the towns for wives to take to their stations. It wasn’t
very pleasant prospect for a new bride, but some girls were lucky enough to
undertake the adventure. The image of a typical Australian was a tall,
thin and blond man who was called a “Cornstalk”, sometimes wearing a
cabbage tree hat.
Australians celebrated their bicentennial beginning Jan. 26, 1988 and
continuing all next year. On that date in 1788, 11 ships arrived from
Britain, and 1.030 settlers, including 776 convicts, began their new life
in waterfront section of Sydney called “the Rocks”.
Australia’s Ties With Great Britain And The USA
Initially, Britain and the Commonwealth countries were the central
elements of Australia’s foreign policy and activity. Later, closer
relations were also developed with the USA, partly because of the vital
role it played in the Pacific during and after World War II.
Australia can seem quite British at times and somewhat American at
others. Political, legal, and educational institutions derive from Britain.
Each state capital is named after a colonial politician (Perth, Brisbane,
Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne) or British royal figure (Adelaide). Dry and
witheringly hot towns bear names from England’s green and pleasant land.
The representative of the England queen is the formal head of the
governmental structure. Only since 1984 has required that a civil servant
in Australia be an Australian – previously it was sufficient to be British.
American influence comes in culture, technology, defense
arrangements, and business. Books from USA have made a major advance in
Australian intellectual circles since the 1960s. American ideas of
management and problem-solving are becoming more and more popular.
Significantly, Australian dollar was introduced in 1966.
In the past some Australians often felt that Australian culture,
products, accents, lifestyles compared unfavorably with Britain and the
USA. This attitude has changed. A strong sense of distinct Australian
identity has grown with the growing recognition in the world of Australian
films, literature and arts.

Economy of China

China between the fall of the KMT and Mao Tse-Tung's death.

The time from 1949-1976 was a time of transition for China.  Many social and
economic changes occurred through this period.  When the Kuomintang government
collapsed and Mao Tse-Tung assumed control, this marked the beginning of massive
reformation for what would become the People's Republic.
With Mao Tse-Tung's rule came governmental reform which led to social
betterment.  His first years of rule included careful development and reorganization
backed by Soviet support.  The landlord class was wiped out with the nationwide land
reform and the land was divided among the peasantry.  Equality prevailed for women and
attacks where made on official corruption.  Efforts were made to improve sanitation and
literacy among the people.  These changes generated patriotism during China's
involvement in the Korean War.
While social reforms proved to be beneficial to China, attempts for  industrial and
agricultural growth were not as successful.  From 1953-57 industrial production was
expanded and agriculture was collectivized.  But disappointing agricultural production
led to the frenzied Great Leap Forward of 1958-60.  This program, initiated by Mao, was
designed to step up industrial production to a level with Britain and create a truly
communal society without Russia's aid; all in the course of 15 years.  The project was a
failure and Liu Shao-Ch'i temporarily took over Mao's position as head of state.
When differences between party leaders arose, and Mao Tse-Tung began feeling
that the revolution was exhausted, he launched the Cultural Revolution of 1966-69.  This
was intended to stir up the conservative government/military and add more revolutionary
elements, ridding the nation of  the 'four olds':  old ideas, old culture, old customs, and
old habits.  These revolutions often turned into violent acts.  When stability was restored,
foreign relations was vastly improved.  The People's Republic of China was admitted into
the United Nations in 1971.
The time period between the fall of the KMT and Mao Tse-Tung's death was an
era of revolutionary transition into a nation for the people.  At one point nearly leading
into a civil war.  The key developments that occurred during this span were greatly
significant in shaping China into what it is today.

China

The history of China is embeded with revolution and tension dating back to the feudal periods and the " first unified Chinese empire under Qi Shi Huang Di in 221 B.C. "  The Confucianism ideology entrenched in the minds of the Chinese people with its conservative base and the need to achieve harmony in society has yet to be reached and most likely, never will.  The proletariat is at the heart of the Marxist-Maoist approach to politics and the basic way of life for the Chinese masses considering that "...roughly 85% of the population is based in peasantry..."  While Marxism, as implemented by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Nationalism have historically hindered the people of China; a growing need to conform to capitilism is plainly obvious if there will ever be success in the global market.
The Marxist theory is based on a classless society where the proletariat or working class is given the opportunity to exist on an equal social level with the remainder of the people while given a form of leadership of its own for the first time.  The dictatorship of the proletariat in communist China called the " peoples democratic dictatorship "   is considered by the Chinese Communist Party to be truly democratic, since it is the dictatorship of the vast majority, the 'people' over a tiny minority of reactionaries.  The Chinese Communist Party formed in 1921 is founded upon strict Marxist beliefs that

                                                                                                                                 D. Marcon 2.
coincide with ideas expressed in the Communist Manifesto.
" The CCP has, as it's mission the creation
of a stateless classless society.  Because the
dictatorship of the proletariat must be led by
the party of the proletariat, the CCP by virtue
of being the vanguard of the working class, and
because of its knowledge of Marxism-Leninism
and its organizatioal capacities, is best able to
understand and realize the interests of all people. "
The Communist Manifesto described the " conquest of political power by the proletariat " as the objective of the Communist. "  The fundamentals of the CCP were originally based on extreme 'leftist' views that centered around the proletariat.  The party would virtually work for the victory of socialism in China while at the same time, looking to dismiss capitalism.
Mao Zedong, one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party in 1921 had views on the need to switch from an orthodox Marxist strategy which called for the party to seek roots among the urban working class, to a rural strategy centered on the exploited peasants, was interrupted by the leadership CCP and its sponsors in Moscow.
The Chinese Communist Party was by no means a military power and it was unable to sustain itself and flourish in the Nationalist-controlled cities.  The Kuomintang, a

                                                                                                                                 D. Marcon 3.
nationalist party was set out to unify China under one central government.  The KMT had in  its possession adequate means to quash the idealistic CCP  and did so on a number of occasions.  Some of which led to rebellions such as the Long March led by Mao Tse-tung.
China, over history has experienced phases of both Nationalism and Sinocentrism, both of which can be damaging to a developing country attempting to compete economically in the global market.  These ideas can relate back to the ancient religion of confucianism. " Confucianism has been instramental in the shaping of China's leadership.  Not only does it emphasize a rigid hierarchy kept in place by virtuous behavior. But it also holds that strict adherence to proper behavior actually leads to correct thinking. "     Accompanying Nationalism and Sinocentrism was rebellion and unrest.  Twenty-four historic dynasties followed a common pattern of development.  At the beginning of a new dynasty, a period of national unity under virtuous and benevolent rule flourished and usually was accompanied by intellectual excitement.  A Mid-Cycle did exist where a period of mediocre rule was present, implying corruption and unrest followed by an End-Cycle, or natural disaster where the the ruler was unable to provide workable remedies.  Rebellion or invasion would insue sending the country spiralling.  The Sinocentric and Nationalist approach China maintained during the Industrial Revolution resulted in the innablity to

                                                                                                                                 D. Marcon 4.
reap its benefits at an early stage.  The Sinocentric world view the government applied not only hindered the success the Industrial Revolution had to offer, it also blinded its own views of the growing powers in the West.  " China had once considered itself the center of the world and in it's long history....Since the Opium War in 1840, however, China was increasigly forced to retreat by the superiority of the Western powers. " Sinocentrism and Nationalism are issues in Chinam that have historically had disasterous affects on the country at the time as well as affects carrying over into the new age of capitalism.
Capitalism is at the root of economic success in most countries.  Organizations such as the World Trade Organizaition have accumulated countries based, in part on thier way of life.  Communism has not traditionally coincided with economic success globally and the trend exists in the countries that are currently members of the WTO.  Presently there does not exist a communist based country in the group of members.
The governmental approach as to limiting goods through central leadership has become known as a...
                                   "...centrally controlled command economy.
That is the central leadership detirmined the
economic policies to be followed and allocated
all of the country's resources....Once the Communist
Party leadership determined the country's political
goals and the correct ideology to follow, the State
Planning Commission and the State Economic
Commission then decided how to implement these
objectives through specific policies for agriculture and

                                                                                                                                 D. Marcon 5.

industry and the allocation of resources. "

An approach of this kind to a country containing such vast potential and immense population does not offer an opportunity to the proletariat class to produce a means that would better his or her own personal lifestyle.  The average worker realistically has no reason to strive to produce a greater number of goods or to produce those goods with any means of quality.  " Enterprises were subordinated to their higher authorities on all issues concerning production, employment, investment and finance.  Wages were set accordingly to seniority rather than ability or effort. "   Intellectuals such as Deng Xiaopeng have realized the need to conform to the capitilist way of life.  Since Deng Xiaopeng came into power in 1978 real per capita gross national product has virtually tripled.
The idea of capitalism is in direct contrast with the historical Marxist-Leninist and Mao Zedong Thought and because of its deep roots in the Chinese way of life it has taken until present day for the political rulers to realize its potential.  Deng Xiaopeng once said " I don't care whether the cat is black or white so as long as it catches mice. "  However, the forces within the Chinese Communist Party forced Deng to conform to their principles and retreat from his own.  Deng had to do so in order to remain in control and maintain his

                                                                                                                                 D. Marcon 6.
position. In 1990 Deng resigned from the position which he held within Chinese politics, the chairman of the State Military Commission.
An issue that must be kept in mind is that while it appears that China might be  attempting to adapt to the ways of the global market it must keep in mind the risks that an rapidly expanding country once took, the United States and the tragic Black Tuesday stock market crash of 1929.
Marxism, Nationalism and Sinocentrism have all presently or over time worked against China flourishing into the new world of capitalism and free enterprise.  In order for China to succeed and reach the 'harmony' its Confucian ideology promises, Marxism, nationalism and sinocentrism must all be abandoned in the attempt to reach a democratic, capitalist lifestyle and business practice.
